Read MoreWhen the notification came across my phone screen this morning that the entire Thai soccer team had been successfully rescued from the cave they had been trapped in for weeks, I was reminded once again about how great the human spirit is! The past few weeks has captured the world's attention as hundreds of people, and a large amount of resources, were used in an attempt to save a small group of people. One man's life was even lost in his attempt to rescue these boys and their coach. What causes someone to risk their lives in an attempt to save another life?

This morning is one of those mornings. I don't feel like I have anything profound to say. Or I wonder if anyone will even read it. I have so many excuses that arise within me which argue for me to take a break.
Read MoreI love reading! I love reading even more when I am able to discuss the book I am reading with others who have read the book as well. Because of that, I want to start a digital book club!
Read MoreWhat is my purpose? What am I put on this planet to do? Is it self-sacrifice? Is it to work as hard as I can until the day I die? Or is this life merely for my pleasure whenever and wherever I can find it?
Read MoreA few days ago our family was looking forward to a nice easy hike around Bear Lake in the Rocky Mountain National Park. We took the scenic drive up through Estes Park, paid the $25 to get into the park, and then we were turned back as we neared Bear Lake because the lots were full. Dejected, we stopped at the nearest visitor center to see if there was anything else we could hike nearby. After talking with one of the helpers at the visitor center we settled on hiking up Deer Mountain; a six mile round trip hike that would have us climbing over 1000 feet. What could go wrong with five kids with ages ranging from 5-13?

Read MoreA few years ago, for my oldest daughter's first dance recital, I started a tradition that would be passed down through all of my daughters. A tradition that I hope makes them feel loved, valued, and gives them the confidence that they always have a dad that will support and protect them.

Read MoreI wish I could say I that I clearly remember their faces or the talks we had. I wish I could say that each and every day I am reminded of their sacrifice, and live my life to honor their memories. I wish all those things were true...but they are not.
Read MoreEvery single person has what I like to call a “mind monkey” bouncing around in their heads causing havoc. It likes to jump up on its cage and make our brains a noisy place. This is how I have tamed my mind monkey.
